SY Teacher Candidates will collaboratively experience, plan, research, and reflect on practices that help foster inclusion, engagement, and an active learning for/in/of/with community. The course will be framed around two “triad”constructs: 1) the UNBC School of Education signature pedagogy: People, Place, and Land, and 2) Stance-Balance-Bearing. Through these two constructs, the course invites SY Teacher Candidates to consider three educational priorities: a) Truth and Reconciliation, b) mental health, and 3) climate change. The course adopts a praxis approach, linking research and theory to practice and inquiry, towards nurturing teacher identity and research capacity. The course is experiential and occurs out/in community. Theory and research are experienced via course activities and not predicated on reading.
